Key Scripture: Genesis 2:24
South Africa doesn’t have a leadership problem in marriage — it has a wrong kind of leadership problem. Too many homes are run by men who confuse headship with dominance, authority with control. But the Bible paints a radically different picture. When God made Adam the head of the family, He didn’t hand him a throne — He handed him a towel. In Matthew 20, Jesus told His disciples plainly: “whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant.” That is the model for every husband.
Not dominance-style leadership. Not control-style leadership. Christ-style leadership — where the man with all authority uses it to serve, protect, and lay down his life. The husband who leads biblically doesn’t bark orders from a distance. He consults his wife because she is his God-given counsellor. He provides, protects, and takes responsibility for the spiritual health of his home. He dies to his own dreams so that new, shared dreams can flourish. In our African context, Ubuntu says “I am because we are” — but Ubuntu without servant leadership becomes a hierarchy of power rather than a partnership of purpose.
This is Part 2 of a two-part message. In Part 2, we examine four practical ways a husband serves his wife — from protection and provision to spiritual nourishment and decision-making — plus the beautiful promise of Psalm 128 for the man who fears the Lord. Watch below to discover what it really looks like to create “a little heaven at home.” (Missed Part 1? Watch Part 1 here.)
